Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
Lot Greeter is an AI greeter that car dealerships put on their websites. It answers questions about the dealership's vehicles and helps visitors reach the dealership's team. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, who helps us process it, and how to have it deleted.
Talking to a greeter on a dealership's website? We run that greeter for the dealership. The dealership decides how your conversation and contact details are used, and its own privacy policy applies too. You can contact the dealership or us about your information, and we'll help either way.
Who this policy covers
- Visitors who talk to a Lot Greeter greeter on a dealership's website.
- Dealerships and their staff who use the Lot Greeter dashboard.
- People who visit lotgreeter.com.
What we collect when you talk to a greeter
- What you say. Your typed messages, or your speech turned into text, and the greeter's replies. We keep these as a transcript of the conversation.
- Contact details you choose to give. Your name, phone number, email address and the vehicle you're interested in. The greeter asks for these only when you want someone from the dealership to follow up, and you can correct them in the chat.
- Which vehicles you're looking at. The vehicle identification numbers (VINs) of the cars on the page you're viewing, and any car you tap in the chat, so the greeter answers about the right vehicle. We don't collect the address of the page or the site you came from.
- Your voice, only if you start a video chat. Your browser asks for microphone permission first. We never turn on your camera.
- Basic technical information. We use your IP address for a moment to stop abuse, and we don't store it. Our hosting provider's request logs briefly record details such as your browser type.
Voice and video chat
The greeter's face and voice are generated as it speaks. When you start a video chat, your microphone audio streams to our video provider, which runs the call, and to a speech-to-text service that turns what you say into text. In Chrome and Edge that service is the browser's own speech recognition, provided by Google or Microsoft. In other browsers it's our speech-to-text provider.
We don't record or store audio or video. We keep only the text transcript.
How we use it
- To hold the conversation: answering from the dealership's live inventory and website.
- To pass your details to the dealership when you ask to be contacted, by email or into the dealership's own systems.
- To keep the greeter accurate and within the law. It never quotes payments, interest rates, lease terms, trade-in values or discounts, and we log any reply our checks block so we can improve them.
- To measure usage for billing, such as minutes of video chat.
- To improve Lot Greeter. We review conversations to find and fix the greeter's mistakes, and we produce de-identified statistics, such as how many chats happen after hours or end with a request to be contacted.
We don't sell or rent personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or build advertising profiles. We never share one dealership's conversations or leads with another dealership. We don't use conversations to train AI models, and our AI and speech-to-text providers process them under business terms that don't let them train their models on it.
Who we share it with
The dealership you're talking to receives your transcript and any contact details you give. Copies it receives, by email or in its own systems, are its records.

Cookies and browser storage
The greeter doesn't set cookies. It saves the chat panel's size in your browser's local storage, and, for up to 60 seconds, a conversation handle in session storage so your chat continues when you move to another page on the same site. lotgreeter.com has no analytics or advertising trackers. The dealer dashboard uses sign-in cookies.
How long we keep it
- Transcripts, contact details and related logs are kept while the dealership uses Lot Greeter, so its team can follow up and review conversations. When a dealership's agreement ends, we delete its data within 30 days. A dealership can ask us to delete it sooner.
- De-identified information, meaning aggregated statistics and examples with names, contact details and anything else that could identify a person or dealership removed, may be kept after the rest is deleted. We don't try to re-identify it.
- Deleted data can remain in our database provider's encrypted backups until they expire in the normal backup cycle.
- Billing records for dealerships are kept as long as financial record-keeping laws require.
Your choices and rights
- You never have to give contact details, and you can use text chat instead of voice.
- To see, correct or delete information about you, ask the dealership or email us at brennen@lotgreeter.com. We'll confirm the request is yours, work with the dealership, and delete your leads and conversations within 30 days.
- Depending on where you live, including California, you may have a legal right to know, correct and delete your personal information, and not to be treated differently for using those rights. We honor these requests wherever you live.
Children
Lot Greeter is for people shopping for vehicles and isn't directed to children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their information. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
Dealerships and their staff
For dashboard users we keep your email address, your role and your sign-in details. Our authentication provider stores passwords in hashed form, and we never see them. We read each dealership's public website and inventory to answer visitors' questions. Billing details are held by our payment processor. When a dealership uploads a sales report to see which leads bought a car, we read it only to match sales to leads Lot Greeter captured for that dealership: we record the sale on the matching lead and don't keep the report.
Security
How we protect this information, including tenant isolation, encryption and our deletion procedure, is on our Security page.
Changes
When we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. We'll tell dealerships directly before any change that affects how their visitors' information is used.
